Assist. Prof. Fatih Al Spoke on “Decision Making Under Uncertainty Within an LLM-Assisted Religio-Moral Framework”
Our university’s Department of Economics organized an academic seminar titled “Decision Making Under Uncertainty.”

At an academic seminar organized by the Department of Economics at Ibn Haldun University on Friday, October 10, 2025, in the Teoman Duralı Conference Hall, Fatih Al, who holds a Ph.D. in Islamic Economics and Finance, delivered a presentation titled “Decision Making Under Uncertainty: LLM-Assisted Religio-Moral Framework.” The seminar was moderated by Prof. Hasan Vergil.

In his presentation, Fatih Al shared the methodological framework of his doctoral research, which examines how Muslim leaders in faith-based civil society organizations make decisions under uncertainty within a framework of religious and moral values. The study analyzed data collected from 21 semi-structured interviews conducted in the Gulf countries and the United Kingdom using the Constructivist Grounded Theory (CGT) approach, transforming it into a conceptual framework that integrates psychological, religious, and sociological perspectives. During this process, a multi-layered synthesis was developed through the use of Large Language Models (LLMs).

The presentation also introduced an illustrative Agent-Based Model (ABM) that simulates tawakkul-based resilience and distinct influence strategies, designed to explain rather than predict moral behavior. Assist. Prof. Al highlighted the rationale behind this methodological choice and emphasized the importance of bridging qualitative and computational approaches in ethical decision-making research.

The event concluded with an engaging discussion among participants, offering valuable insights into innovative interdisciplinary methods that connect moral philosophy, data-driven modeling, and decision science.
