The final seminar of the IHU Economics Seminars was held on November 22, 2024 Friday. The seminar took place in the Prof. Dr. Teoman Duralı Conference Hall, where Prof. Dr. Sumru Altug delivered her presentation titled "MENA Stock Markets and Economic Policy Uncertainty in Lebanon: A Connectivity Approach."
During the seminar, economic policy uncertainties in Lebanon were assessed using a new uncertainty index measured through Twitter sentiment analysis. Prof. Dr. Altug's presentation explored the relationship between stock markets in the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region and economic uncertainty in Lebanon within the framework of a connectivity approach.
After the presentation, participants engaged in a discussion, asking questions and exploring the potential of this new research method. The event concluded with in-depth discussions in an academic setting.
The Department of Economics plans to continue the IHU Economics Seminars series with similar events.
