Biography of the Speaker:

A globally recognized econometrician and Islamic social scientist, Prof. Zaman has held faculty positions at Columbia, Johns Hopkins, University of Pennsylvania, and Bilkent University. He served as Vice Chancellor of the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE), Chief Economist Officer of Pakistan and as Director General of the International Institute of Islamic Economics. His graduate textbook "Statistical Foundations of Econometric Techniques (Academic Press, 1996)" remains a standard reference worldwide. He is Managing Editor of the International Econometric Review and has published extensively in top journals including the Annals of Statistics, Journal of Econometrics, and Journal of Labor Economics.

His Mission: Prof. Zaman's life work is the intellectual and moral reform of economics and the social sciences, moving them away from technical abstraction and value neutrality toward ethical grounding, human welfare, and an Islamic epistemological framework. He champions what he calls Uloom-ul-Umran: An Islamic alternative to mainstream social science that integrates revelation, history, and empirical inquiry.
